A Note from the Principal...
This month's life skill is 'FRIENDSHIP.' Learning about how to be a good friend will help students be more successful at school, at home, and later in life.

Superintendent Anthony
Q. Davis knows that students who read widely and read for pleasure have more
academic success in schools. Reading can also have mental health benefits for
children and adults alike. Research has associated reading with lower stress
levels and even with living longer! With those things in mind,
Superintendent Davis is challenging the Syracuse City School District community
to read 10,000 books throughout the months of May and June. It’s an ambitious
goal but, if everyone participates, we can easily achieve it!
The10,000 Book Challenge builds on the current 20 Book Challenge that is already happening in SCSD Schools in which staff and students are tracking the books they read via printed materials provided by their library media specialist. All SCSD Schools’ staff and students as well as Syracuse residents living in the Syracuse City School District are encouraged to participate in this 10,000 Book Challenge which will simply require submitting a simple online form to track books that were read! Students and staff will be receiving bookmarks with the QR code, and each building will have posters with the information, to encourage participation. Bookmarks and flyers will also be located in the Syracuse City branches of Onondaga County Public Libraries.
